    1. OC Reproductive Endocrinologist says:

The only tried and tested method involves the high-tech procedures of InVitro Fertilization and PGD (Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis)

There are many other methods that don’t work well, but they might be able to shade the odds perhaps 55/45. However, these tactics will lower the chance of pregnancy at all.

you get what you get, there’s no way to try more to get one sex over the other….sorry….

It was accurate with a couple of my friends and myself but we didn’t use it to get pregnant for a certain sex. We looked after the fact and saw that it was accurate. Good luck!

PS. Just remember as long as you have a healthy child, that’s all that should matter!

The gender of your baby is determined by your partner’s sperm. Female sperm are bigger and live longer than male sperm, but they are also slower. Thus, having intercourse a few days before ovulation will give the female sperm an edge over the male sperm.

When to have sex if you would like to conceive a girl
Timing intercourse for having a girl may be more challenging than trying for a boy. You will want to have sex several days before you ovulate. However, if you have intercourse too close to ovulation you may end up conceiving a boy. Sperm can live up to five days. You want to time intercourse so that you are having sex as far from ovulation as possible but still close enough that the sperm will still survive. The female sperm live longer than the male so if you time things right, the male sperm will not make it to the egg to fertilize it. You want to try not to have sex during the two days before your peak day. Unfortunately, if you don’t have a regular cycle or if you ovulate earlier than you normally do, you may end up having intercourse close enough to ovulation to conceive a boy.

Ovulation Kits and conceiving a girl
Using an ovulation kit is not really helpful for trying to conceive a girl. Ideally, you want to have sex several days before you ovulate. Although using an ovulation prediction kit would be helpful for figuring how you did as far as your timing goes, it is only helpful in retrospect.

When not to have sex if you want to conceive a girl
If you want to try to conceive a boy you will want to abstain from having sex or use a barrier method during the two days before you expect to have your peak day. This may be difficult to determine if you do not have a regular cycle. You can start having intercourse as soon as you start having fertile cervical mucous and try to stop two days before your peak day. You will probably want to look at previous charts to try to predict this.

Drawbacks to trying to conceive a specific gender
Using the Shettles method is not a guarantee that you will conceive a girl and you may become frustrated if you do not get pregnant right away. If you find you are not getting pregnant you may want to time intercourse a little closer to when you anticipate your peak day. Still, keep in mind, that limiting the days you have sex to just the day of ovulation you may decrease your chances of getting pregnant. If you are having problems getting pregnant, you may not want to attempt gender selection methods.

To learn how to conceive a girl, it will help to know a little about the differing female and male sperm. Since sperm is the determining factor whether you’ll conceive a girl or a boy, you need to know how they move along to get to the egg.

Female spermatozoon (x)are larger, and more sluggish, but live longer than male spermatozoon (y). Male sperm are quite the opposite in that they are smaller, and die off quicker, but they are much faster at moving toward the egg. Knowing these behaviors and attributes of sperm enables you to determine the best time and methods for sexual intercourse.

Dr. Shettle’s Method: How To Choose The Sex Of Your Baby, bases his studies on these scientific principles. According to Dr. Shettle, to conceive a girl, you would engage in sexual relations daily from the last day of the woman’s menses until roughly three days prior to ovulation. The reason for this, Shettles says, is that the male sperm, although faster, will die before getting to the egg, thus giving the longer lasting female sperm plenty of time to arrive during ovulation. But he cautions that having sex too close to ovulation, you may end up conceiving a boy.

Although Shettles method alleges the time of sexual intercourse is most crucial, he adds that partners should exercise the missionary position to deposit sperm nearer the entryway to the vagina. This is to ensure that the male sperm is far away from the egg and die before it can get there, while the longer living female’s will survive long enough to make it to the ovulating egg.

For additional ways on how to conceive a girl, he adds that the female shouldn’t allow herself to reach climax because he believes this causes an alkalic vaginal environment. Dr. Shettle contends that type of environment makes it difficult for the slow moving female sperm to get to the egg.

Learning how to conceive a girl with these methods, and especially if you have irregular periods, can be very challenging indeed. I would recommend getting some kind of ovulation kit, so as to pinpoint exactly when to expect ovulation, or you may just end up with a boy, or worse yet, not getting pregnant at all. Also keep in mind that trying to conceive a girl is much more difficult than a boy, as the timing is more stingent, thus tougher to get right.

Also, Dr. Shettle’s book goes on to describe what I’ve told you, but in much more needed and better detail than what I can offer. He does give a few more useful and encouraging tips. This book is highly recommended if you want to learn how to conceive a girl.
